The Honorable Kevin J. Carey (Ret.)

The annual Summit was renamed in 2025 to recognize and preserve the Honorable Kevin J. Carey’s (ret.) legacy of bankruptcy-related education and mentorship of industry professionals who could benefit from his knowledge and wisdom. A beloved federal bankruptcy judge, longtime lawyer, and adjunct law professor, he was an expert on corporate insolvency and restructuring, tax and labor claims, and international rules, and he helped define, enforce, and reshape bankruptcy law across the country. Judge Carey served on the U.S. Bankruptcy Courts for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania and District of Delaware from 2001-2019.
